Maccai
Collection
This brooch is unique in the Merian’s treasury collection. In her drawing of the Maccai thistle from her book “Transformation of the insects of Suriname” Maria Sybilla Merian shows shapes, textures and colors in great detail. The leaves of this plant are capricious, the thorns sharp. White-yellow flowers emerge from the blue-green buds.
Technique
First I worked out the design in wax, then it was cast in yellow gold. Then I detailed and finished it and put the gemstones in place.
Material
Silver, 14 carat gold, korund, turmalin, labradorite.
Price
On request
The price of gold fluctuates constantly so the retail price of my jewellery may vary. Please contact me for a current estimate.
These earrings can also be made by commission. The final design will differ slightly. For example, different gemstones can be chosen. This means your commissioned pieces will still be unique. Do you have old gold jewellery that is unused? The gold may be repurposed into making these earrings. That way you not only preserve the material, but also the memories attached to them. Creation and delivery, in this case, would take 6 weeks.
