Papay
Collection
These earrings are unique in the Merian’s Treasure collection. In her drawings, from her book “ The transformation of the insects of Suriname”, Maria Sybilla Merian shows very detailed shapes, textures and colours. The drops made out of onyx are held by yellow gold, like the seeds in the fruit of the Papay tree. Milky liquid flows from the fruit when you cut it open.
Technique
First I worked out the design in wax, then it was cast in yellow gold. Then I detailed and finished it and put the gemstones in place.
Material
14 Carat gold, korund, topaz, turmalin and onyx.
Price
On request
The price of gold fluctuates constantly so the retail price of my jewellery may vary. Please contact me for a current estimate.
These earrings can also be made by commission. The final design will differ slightly. For example, different gemstones can be chosen. This means your commissioned pieces will still be unique. Do you have old gold jewellery that is unused? The gold may be repurposed into making these earrings. That way you not only preserve the material, but also the memories attached to them. Creation and delivery, in this case, would take 6 weeks.
